In Winter, the square comes alive with thousands of white holiday lights and little houses-a bakery, a library, a church, a barber shop-all with mechanical figures to enchant young and old alike, and Santa is there too in his little hut, waiting for the children to visit and give him their Christmas wishes. A mosaic of the town is on display there as well, created from ceramic pieces made by Highland's elementary students, and there's a totally cool tree-trunk carving which now graces the west side of the square. There are benches for sitting and chatting, walkways for exercise, and a gazebo where weekly free band concerts are presented throughout the summer months. There's a multi-layered, lighted fountain in the center which is a delight to watch, particularly after dark when the colored lights can be viewed in all their glory.
